The shop-lined street “Asahi-dori” is only an 8 minute walk away from Kofu Station’s North exit. Located in the middle of an older residential area filled with schools, hospitals, and family housing, this shopping district is filled with a sense of calm. Unlike most bustling, crowded and loud shopping centers filled with clothes and accessories, this street is lined with shops that sell everyday items. The road is lined with nearly 90 dogwood trees, and when they bloom in spring, their pink and white petals give a fresh, bright feeling to the street. Dogwood trees can be enjoyed anytime of the year- their green leaves in summer, bright red leaves in fall, and red sap that appears during winter brighten up the street year round. Every April the district hosts the “Dogwood Festival”, and employees from all sorts of stores stand alongside the road, advertising for the event.
