Located in the Okuchichibu mountain range, Mt. Kinpu is one of a hundred famous Japanese mountains.
At 2,599 metres, situated on the border between Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures, Mt. Kinpu is a magnificent mountain, said from long ago to be the ‘Mt. Mitake of Koshu’ (Mt. Mitake being a famous mountain in Tokyo).
Commanding towering views over the mountain summit is the nearby Gojo Rock – without a doubt one of the area’s chief highlights, whose impressive size makes it a must-see for all visitors.
The mountain summit itself boasts 360 degree sweeping panoramic views, in which Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps and the Yatsugatake Volcanoes can be seen. The landscape is known for its invigorating effect on both body and mind, giving visitors a real sense of the rich, natural history of Okuchichibu.
The summit can be reached in about 2 and a half hours, starting from the trailhead on the Yamanashi side, and is suitable for everyone, from mountaineering experts to the non-experienced.
