Situated in the northern part of Kofu City, Shosen Gorge is s a designated area of scenic beauty, and is well-known as one of Japan’s most scenic gorges.
Visitors are met with stunning views of the gorge’s calm, clear water, flowing over stones of unique shapes and sizes. The granite cliff sides too boast hundreds of unusual rock formations – formed naturally, thousands of years ago. With each season, the gorge takes on a different aspect, making it an ideal place to return to at different times of the year, where its ever-changing beauty can be witnessed up close.
One of the most popular times to visit the gorge is Autumn, due to the striking abundance of red leaves. However, the magnificent 30 metre Senga Falls and the nearby Arakawa Dam – surrounded by a beautiful, expansive forest – are further highlights.
In addition, the area is considered by many to be of deep spiritual significance, adding further to its charms.
Only a 30 minute drive from Kofu City, the gorge is perfectly located for those preferring more leisurely sightseeing, and as such it has become a much sought after sightseeing location for visitors to Kofu City.
